The BC (Big Chop)

Hello  all!

I decided to start this one of many hair blogs because I wanted to document a young woman’s journey to becoming all-natural.   “Why do you want to go all natural?” you may ask.  Well, I had been relaxing my hair for about a year and a half by rocking a Rihanna-influenced short do that many of us sistahs have been wearing recently.  Everything had been going well, and I really loved it.  It was trendy and cute.  It gave me an edge but I still had enough hair to retain my femininity.  However, on New Years Eve 2009 I went in to the salon for a touch-up, and the result was badly burning parts of my hairline.  At this point, it was safe to say that I was finished with relaxers.

To start the transition process, I got a full-head weave.  After about a month, I took out the weave due to extreme itchiness.   Along with the weave, about a handful of my relaxed hair came out!  If you don’t believe me, look at the pics.  At this point, there was no turning back.  I wanted to use a half wig to continue the transition process, but there was too much damage to do even this.  So the next day I went to my lovely hairdresser and asked her to cut off all of my hair.  I was sweating bullets as I sat in her chair.  As my hairdresser buzzed my hair off, everyone in the salon was unabashedly looking at me thinking, “She must be crazy! Why is she shaving her whole head off?”  Luckily I had my boyfriend there to tell me when she was done, “You look beautiful.”  I was just happy that my head wasn’t shaped funny.  I thought I would have a peanut head.

So now what’s my plan?  To grow my hair out to get Sisterlocks ™!  I have been admiring them for a while now, and I can’t wait to join the community of beautifully locked black women!

Now that I am natural, what products do I use?  What should my hair regimen be? Help!!!!  All comments are highly appreciated.
